Banana Custard Scrolls
It's the last day for the tradies today and they had a good day because it was cool and it has finally stopped raining. Is it me or does it rain for you every time external work is being done. At least this time the rain didn't get into the house but it sure made a mess if the yard when the excavator was moving around. They were a great bunch of blokes and they did a really good job. I'm really glad I made them some home cooked treats for smoko because they are working away from home and staying in a local caravan park. This mornings offering was a Banana Custard Scroll with lime icing. So hot from the oven it was hard to pull apart without burning yourself, didn't stop them though. They really enjoyed smoko and made a point of coming over to thank me personally and shake my hand. Tilly is going to miss them. She thinks they are her new friends.

Raclette Unboxing Mini Review and Party Ideas
We had a request from Eva for some Recipe Inspiration for her new Raclette Grill. I had to get one and this is the unboxing, mini review and some recipe ideas we came up with. It is a 240v Electric Table top Party Grill Designed for eight diners.
Based on a traditional Swiss way of communal dining on melted cheese, vegetables, savoury meats, seafoods, small goods and we even added a couple of desserts to finish off the meal. It is a fun way to entertain. My brand is a Davis and Waddell but there are several on the market.
Each Diner cooks their own food to the level of doneness they prefer. It is kept hot and trays of vegetables, poultry, meats and seafoods can be prepared ahead of time and delivered to the table as required. Great for a party because the host is free to enjoy the company of the guests without stressing over who eats what and how much. This has a stone grill on one side which gets incredibly hot searing anything you put on it. The temperature of course is adjustable and and the other side has a reversible grill which is griddle one side and little indentations moulded into the non stick surface for the inclusion of ingredients that benefit from being contained, pancakes, eggs, hash brown mix etc. Think a long lazy Sunday Brunch that you won't overeat as the food is prepared by you as you go and you have time to realise when you've had enough. It really is so versatile. You can cook so many different cuisines on it, Japanese Tepanyaki, Spanish Tapas, Korean BBQ, Aussie BBQ, Mexican Fiesta, pancake parties, seafood feasts, vegetarian, vegan, kebab parties and of course Raclette .
This top one is grilled pineapple, pancake, maple syrup and toasted coconut chips, a caramel sauce variation or rum sauce would be too delicious for words.
We love how light, portable, easy to clean and use it is. The ability to keep food hot for the duration of the meal. Its simple relaxed dining and a terrific opportunity to try different foods. For the Unboxing and video recipe ideas visit our cheekyricho youtube channel for that a many other innovative appliance reviews.

OK you are going to need a seriously sweet tooth for this one. Toasted bananas, marshmallows, chocolate chips, maple syrup and pancakes. You are going to need a run after this but you will be anyway to get away from the ants that are chasing you. LOL!!

Asparagus, Leek Camembert Tart
Last week I was swimming in an unheated pool, it was brisk but enjoyable. This week the quilt is back on the bed, the water is icy and I'm looking for delicious comfort food to share with you. This recipe for Asparugus, Leek Camembert Tart came about because I bought some gorgeous fresh crisp asparagus and a fat tender leek, not wanting to make soup, although they would've been perfect candidates for that dish, I decided to make this lazy brunch/ afternoon lunch recipe. We'd been working on the the new campervan all morning and it had been threatening to rain again. We continued working as long as the weather would let us and ended up finishing early for the day because of another scurried tool pack away due to the sudden rain scud that snuck up from a different direction. What better way to finish an early days work than with this delicious tart, a glass of white wine and an arvo nap, listening to the rain. Everything steered us in that direction. Cold, dark skies, unrelenting rain and a power outage due to the storm. Can't cook, can't watch TV, can't do YouTube, full belly so can't eat. Can Sleep and recharge our batteries.
Now this was way too much creamy cheesy, crisp asparagus and sticky leek, crusty pastry enclosed goodness for one meal so we had our fill with a fresh green garden salad and the left overs were a perfect room temperature snack for dinner. Two meals, both delicious which reminded me my latest creation would make a gorgeous picnic dish. I seem to be very picnic orientated now the swimming season is finally over for this summer. Check it out on our cheekyricho YouTube channel http://youtu.be/68iEkGNUXyQ

Gem Scones
When I was a little girl an elderly friend would show me how to cook things. I have always been obsessed with everything about food. I love trying new things but I am am also passionate about keeping old recipes alive too. This super easy budget friendly recipe for Gem Scones is just such a recipe. Back in the day when sugar was a luxury and flour was a cheap staple it became necessary to find new and interesting low budget ways to feed and treat your family, friends and guests. Damper, pikelets and scones were cheap because they used pantry ingredients, kept and travelled well and everybody likes them. This recipe for Gem Scones requires the use of a gem scone iron which is typically a cast metal material but I brlieve you could use a cake pop pan just as easily, kind of mixing the old with the new.
They are light, fluffy and round. Served warm with a smidge of butter they are a perfect brunch or morning tea treat.
We dressed these up with some really old teasets, a floral tray, home made butter and real leaf tea, that's right folks, not a tea bag in sight. Played some nostalgic soft music and took our tea in the drawing room, well lounge room actually, on a tea trolley. It was very quaint and only cost a few pennies to make. Check out the super easy recipe in our cheekyricho YouTube channel. http://Youtube.be/kw04K7poxVQBrawn cheekyricho luncheon meat
Budget friendly delicious Brawn, using cheap pork cuts and a pressure cooker we prepared this amazing luncheon Brawn which is healthy, tasty and perfect for al fresco dining.
Served with crusty fresh bread, pickles, a selection of cheeses and a nice glass of wine.
Easy to slice it is ideal as a sandwich filler, with a fresh salad. Exceptionally good for picnics and outdoor meals, spangled with fresh herbs, delicately flavoured with garlic, onions and green peppercorns, low in fat but uber high in taste we do hope you give it a try.http://youtu.be/o7GEjAKYp7c

Vegan Bircher Muesli
cheekyricho Bircher Muesli its Vegan and Yummy!!
http://youtu.be/Ot1BSVPMVhA
I have been trying to get Richo to try Bircher Muesli for yonks and he is very resistant to change, claiming to be a 'weetbix kid'. On a recent cruise he accidentally ordered the wrong thing and ended up with Bircher muesli instead of a granola. By sheer accident he found his new fave breakfast cereal. He was so impressed he made me promise to make it back home .
I figured if he enjoyed it so much you just might too. So here is my cheekyricho YouTube video version of a time honoured classic European Breakfast.

Chocolate Chia Pudding Gluten Free, Vegan a Breakfast Delight
I like sweet things for breakfast and Richo would eat eggs anyway everyday. I recently made some Dairy Free Almond Milk and this recipe is perfect for using it. You need to prepare it the night before but at least you don't have the morning dilemma of 'what to have for breaky?' So that's one problem solved before you even start the day. Did I mention its creamy with a rich chocolatey taste and a gloopy pudding type texture which is perfect for loading into those squeezing bag things to eat on the bus or pop into kids lunch boxes. That's got to make your morning just that little bit easier and who couldn't do with a few more minutes in bed. Check it out and so much more on our cheekyricho YouTube channel
