Gem Scones

When I was a little girl an elderly friend would show me how to cook things. I have always been obsessed with everything about food. I love trying new things but I am am also passionate about keeping old recipes alive too. This super easy budget friendly recipe for Gem Scones is just such a recipe. Back in the day when sugar was a luxury and flour was a cheap staple it became necessary to find new and interesting low budget ways to feed and treat your family, friends and guests. Damper, pikelets and scones were cheap because they used pantry ingredients, kept and travelled well and everybody likes them. This recipe for Gem Scones requires the use of a gem scone iron which is typically a cast metal material but I brlieve you could use a cake pop pan just as easily, kind of mixing the old with the new.
They are light, fluffy and round. Served warm with a smidge of butter they are a perfect brunch or morning tea treat.
We dressed these up with some really old teasets, a floral tray,  home made butter and real leaf tea, that's right folks, not a tea bag in sight. Played some nostalgic soft music and took our tea in the drawing room, well lounge room actually, on a tea trolley. It was very quaint and only cost a few pennies to make. Check out the super easy recipe in our cheekyricho YouTube channel. http://Youtube.be/kw04K7poxVQ
